The Christian community needs to embrace Christ-centered values that build and deepen relationships. Using the acronym G.R.A.C.E., five core values are identified: Grace, Respect, Appreciation, Compassion, and Encouragement. Wanting to foster these values within the church, the G.R.A.C.E. initiative recognizes those whose service exemplifies them.
Through a congregation-wide program, folks are encouraged to nominate others that display G.R.A.C.E. by filling out a simple form. They write a simple G.R.A.C.E. note explaining how someone embodied the G.R.A.C.E. values. This is submitted to the Pastor, who will pass along the note and a custom G.R.A.C.E. lapel pin to the recognized person. If appropriate, public thanks are shared with the G.R.A.C.E. recipient when they get their lapel pin and note. Names and photos of recipients are published in parish communications.
There is no limit to the number of recognitions that are given out, and the awarding of G.R.A.C.E. pins is an ongoing effort throughout the Church Year. If someone has already received a G.R.A.C.E. award, they don’t get a second pin, but they will receive additional notes and public appreciation.
Staff and leaders are strongly encouraged to nominate others regularly. Their recognition goes a long way to support greater engagement in ministry and Christ-centered values that strengthen a loving community.
