CVLC supports its students

Christus Victor Lutheran Church has a legacy of encouraging and supporting education within and beyond the church. Through awarding grants each year, the church not only helps defray the costs of higher education but it seeks to affirm the participation of young people in the life of the congregation.  

Eligibility:

 

The potential recipient must be accepted or enrolled in an institution of higher education, including, but not limited to, a public or private college or university or a post-secondary trade, technical, or vocational school or program. Applicants are eligible for only one (1) grant per calendar year. 

 

Awards: 

Within the CVLC Community: 

The following four (4) grants may be awarded to any voting member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church who is active in the life of CVLC after the date of confirmation or another church body, including campus ministries. Examples of qualifying activities include attendance in worship, volunteer service, or involvement in ministry education. 

  1. Students recognized by ELCA as being enrolled in a course of study leading to an ELCA rostered leader (ordained minister, associate in ministry, deacon, or deaconess)   
  1. Full time up to $2,000 
  1. Part time up to $1,000 
  1. Traditional students 
  1. Full time up to $1,000 
  1. Part time up to $500 
  1. Adult and nontraditional students returning to formal education after a period of inactivity 
  1. Students enrolled in a single course for personal development or continuing education course may be eligible for up to a $200 grant. 

 

Application Process: 

 

The applicant shall submit a complete application no later than October 1 of the calendar year.  This application consists of two parts: one filled out by the student and one by a pastor or other church leader at CVLC or other faith community. Links for both these parts are found in the online application.  The recommendation letter should speak to the applicant’s church activity and service to the larger community and demonstrate where the applicant lives out their Christian faith.

The CVLC website has an online version of this application. The CVLC Scholarship Committee will decide on grants by December of the same year.
