Art Lecture by Maxine Moore

PRIME EVILS AND UNIVERSAL
TRUTHS
Dr.Maxine Moore

Synopsis: This series of six lectures is based upon predictably clear
patterns in human history and the arts. Human nature does not change.
Passion for power and glory, and irresistible temptations for possessions,
are worldly groceries that never come stamped with a “past due date.”
The cycles of good and evil, comedy and tragedy, unfailingly repeat. The
gremlin that haunts our present times is unawareness of the past and the
great lessons to be learned from the trials of long ago.
Lecture 1: How Envy (poisonous by-product of success) destroyed
Republics of Golden Age Greece and Renaissance Italy.
Lecture 2: Lust & Gluttony in Industrial Revolution & modern
Consumer Age
Lecture 3: Illustrations of the brutal culture of Pride in Imperial Rome
and Fascist Europe
Lecture 4: Avarice : Super-predators of European Colonial Imperialism
Lecture 5: Wrath : War & revolution (Milton’s Paradise Lost;
Protestant Revolt; Jacobin Reign of Terror)
Lecture 6: Sloth: Suicide of Ancient Rome & “Twilight of the Christian
West”
