Senior Ministry

What is “Senior Ministry”?

Senior Ministry has been at Christus Victor for several years now and offers to its members, and those who might benefit from it, information on a large variety of topics relating to “senior living”.
Take a few minutes to review our brochure to familiarize yourself with what’s available in the event you might need this information in the future.

SENIOR MINISTRY

Grace in the Aging Process

Information for the Journey

We are proud to present to our membership, and those searching our CVLC Website, information on a variety of topics – some easier than others to engage in.  However, life happens, and we must prepare ourselves and arm ourselves with information that can help in the transitions that come our way as we age.

Hospice Explained

What is it exactly?  Are you sure you know the complete scope of what Hospice can provide?  This session with Mark Beland from AVOW Hospice covers much information that will provide the listener with a complete understanding of what Hospice entails.

The 5 Wishes Document - Helping Your Family

Are you prepared and organized for the sudden changes that can happen in our lives?  Does your family know EXACTLY what your wishes are should you be incapacitated?  This interview with Mark Beland educates on the difference between advanced Directives and a Do Not Resuscitate Order, along with additional information that could provide much-needed information to your family if it was ever needed.  The 5-Wishes Document that is discussed in this video is available through the Christus Victor Office.

Choosing a Skilled Nursing or Rehabilitation Facility

So you’ve had to endure a hospital stay and you no longer need the amount of care provided in the hospital.  At this point, the hospital will begin all of the process necessary to discharge you.   If you are able to go straight home with no additional care needed – wonderful, BUT what if your full recovery is still not complete – who will take care of you and how will it be accomplished and organized?
If your recovery is slower than expected, you may not have people [friends, family, etc.] around who can help you in your recovery process at home.  A Skilled Nursing Facility provides care for people who are not yet able to care for themselves at home.   It’s always hoped in the best case scenario, after your stay in the hospital, that you would be able to return home and care for yourself, but if you can’t…

IT’S BEST TO PLAN AHEAD!

For More Information

There are multiple sites on the Internet that provide good, and some not-so-good information.  One site that we’ve found that has good information as it relates to the definition of terms, senior articles, and other tips is the following: https://www.senioradvice.com/assisted-living/florida

Another good site is the one from AARP, which includes information, games, and other valuable resources.  Check them out at: www.aarp.org

We’ll continue to add sites to this listing as they become available.  Have YOU been to a good site lately that might be an informative one to share with others?  Let the Senior Ministry Director know, and we’ll add it here for others to review.

Need To Recharge?

We are so blessed, but sometimes the stresses of life make us forget.

We’re worried about many things, and often what we need to stop our minds from the anxiety and fear that often accompanies worry is to move into other forms of activities that help to calm and strengthen our resolve that GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Let’s look at a list of ways we could positively bolster our attitudes:

Embracing the Change to Assisted Living

Facing a Move to Assisted Living? Moving to Assisted Living is not the beginning of the end, but the beginning of a new phase in your life. We have heard it said that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. Life is about learning to dance in the rain.
And that is so true when you are facing physical or mental decline and you need to make changes to adjust.

How Volunteering Will Add Years and Quality to Your Life!

So you’ve finally retired and you’ve done the multiple rounds of golf, multiple hands of Mah Jongg, and multiple days in the sun lounging by the pool…is that all there is to retirement?
IT SHOULDN’T BE!
If you think the days of finding purpose and fulfillment ended with your “job”, take heart, VOLUNTEERING may be just what you need to balance out the days of leisure.   So why is volunteering so good for you and how can you get the most out of the experience?
